Balance Frequently Asked Questions

What software does Abacus Balance support?

Abacus Balance currently only supports Abacus Accounting inside of AbacusLaw.

Will I lose control of my business by outsourcing my bookkeeping to Abacus Balance?

No. You will continue to maintain 100% control of all financial decisions. All checks will continue to be signed by you; you will decide who gets paid and when. Abacus Balance is just a resource that helps you to understand, in a timely manner how your money is being allocated, so you can make educated business decisions.

Do you replace my CPA?

Absolutely not. Abacus Balance ONLY provides bookkeeping services. Since we do not perform tax or attest services, your CPA does not need to be concerned that we are here to replace them. We value your relationship with your CPA and look to enhance the day-to-day recordkeeping so your CPA can help you make informed decisions.

Who services my account?

You will have a team of bookkeepers assigned to your account. Each member of the team has accounting background and bookkeeping experience. The teams are supervised by Senior Reviewers with years of experience in multiple private industries.

Can other people access my data?

No one will have access to your data without your company's express permission. This includes your CPA and your employee(s). Abacus Balance will set up and help you to control restrictions, so only users who are authorized by you are allowed access.

How secure is my financial information?

For all of us, at Abacus Balance, security of your financial data is our number one goal. Your files are stored using 256-bit AES encryption, and SSL creates a secure tunnel for data transfers. In order to get your data files there are at least 2 levels of passwords that must be successfully entered.

What’s the difference between a bookkeeper and accountant?

A bookkeeper is someone who keeps your books in order by following a set of prescribed guidelines. An accountant is the person who gives in-depth accounting of the state of your finances, analyzes the numbers, draws conclusions, gives advice about risks and their impact on your business, and helps with business plans and financial reporting.

Do you provide payroll and HR services?

Abacus Balance doesn't provide payroll services or give HR advice. However, we work with the majority of licensed full-service payroll providers (ranging from nationwide firms, such as ADP and PayChex, to boutique local providers).

Can you provide reconciliation for my trust account?

Yes. We realize that inaccurate trust accounting is detrimental to attorneys, therefore Abacus Balance staff includes Senior Reviewers who specializes in trust accounting, and we can provide this service to you at your special request.

If any number of my monthly transactions goes up or down, do you immediately adjust the price?

Abacus Balance understands that business situations fluctuate due to growth or seasonality, therefore we review your account quarterly for optimal efficiency and/or price adjustments.
